Frequently Asked Questions
What clothes should we bring?
Wearing layers is always best as the weather all over the world is so unpredictable at the moment. Stout shoes are useful if you are walking as some of the paths can be wet at any time. A sun-hat and sun cream are useful, and walking poles if you want some extra security. We do sometimes have flies, but have plenty of fly spray and curtains, and are not usually bothered by mosquitos – but some form of protection for the evening is recommended
What is the best time of year to visit?
If you want to do more sightseeing then anytime from May to early September. Our experience is that a lot of tourist places close down from the first week of September when schools go back.
September is a great month for walking, along with October, May and June.
In August we tend to be hot, although in 2025 this was not the case.
We tend to try to run our craft and cooking courses slightly out of season as they are mostly indoors
How many people can stay at Le Moulin?
Our maximum capacity is 12 people depending on room configuration. But we prefer groups of six to eight as this gives plenty of opportunity for us to look after you well (we are a small team) and to offer you individual attention!
Is Le Moulin suitable for single or solo travellers?
We think it is ideal and we have hosted many over the three years we have been at Le Moulin. Our programme is very well suited to individuals who like the privacy of their own room (there is no single supplement which is a big plus) and as we all sit down to eat together in the evening, there’s plenty of opportunity to make new friends and share your experiences of the day.
Are you easy to reach? Is there public transport available?
We are easy to reach and offer to pick you up from the airport or train station if you decide to travel on those routes. There’s a daily bus in Niort, but apart from that, there is no public transport. However, the peace and quiet of the countryside is one of the benefits of staying at Le Moulin.
Do you plan activities for us during our week?
Yes we do, and you will find a list with each holiday. If you would prefer to remain at Le Moulin that’s fine, but most of our guests do like the opportunity to explore the local area. We are very well situated to visit local markets, medieval villages and beauty spots.
