Discover a medieval village and savour French galettes

Enjoy a visit to a medieval village where folklore abounds and you can chose from a range of savoury galettes made in a very French way.  Vegans and Vegetarians are welcome on all our holidays

Your week will look something like this

Arrive at our guest house situated at the end of a leafy valley where the only sound you will enjoy is one of birdsong.  No passing traffic and clear night skies offer star gazing you can only imagine. Take a short walk around the property, enjoy cake and biscuits or a welcome glass of champagne, get unpacked in your luxury room, or perhaps take a swim in our heated outdoor pool.  At 17:45 we will all meet for aperitifs on the terrace and sit down to enjoy our first gourmet meal together from 18:30.

After breakfast travel to nearby Fontenay-le-Comte to Colin Underhay’s studio where coffee, tea and biscuits will be served.  The workshop begins with an introduction to the materials and tools you will be using.  Colin will then demonstrate step-by-step the techniques required to produce a stunning hare sculpture. Start to feel the therapeutic benefits of working with clay and enjoy great conversation as you start to work on your project. After a break for a packed lunch (supplied) and some fresh air in the gardens, return to the studio to fashion your animal into something you’ll be proud to take home. All materials are included. Aprons are provided, but it’s a good idea not to wear your best clothes. Around 4pm you will be collected and returned to the guest house in time for some relaxing before dinner.

After breakfast return to Fontenay-le-Comte to complete the work on your hare sculpture which will be approx 20 – 25 cm high. As usual you’ll be collected around 4pm and returned to our guest house and, as on Monday, all materials, drinks and food are included. On Day 2 of the hare workshop you’ll be refining and hollowing out your hare which will stay at the studio at the end of the day to be fired – ready for you to take home.

Enjoy a day at our guest house where you can take a gentle, or more active walk, visit a local medieval town and do some shopping, try your hand at soap or chocolate making, or just pick up one of the 200 books here and find a spot by the pool to relax. Beauty treatments are also available – from facials to massages, manicures or pedicures.

This workshop is suitable for all levels including absolute beginners.  The day will start with an introduction to the materials and tools plus an overview of what you will achieve using the direct method. You’ll break ceramic tiles and use the nippers to shape them ready to create your own mosaic piece. We’ll have designs available at the studio for you to choose from, or you could bring your own creativity to the fore by creating your own.

Today we’ll be exploring the use of Cyanotype which was discovered in the 1800s but has recently been gaining in popularity in the art and crafting communities.  Cyanotype is a unique direct photographic process that does not require a camera or darkroom. You can choose your objects, leaves or flowers from our garden or from an available selection of objects in the studio which you can then play around with and arrange to your own design onto the specialist light sensitive paper.  The paper is then exposed to sunlight to develop and washed in water to reveal a stunning blue toned print.

Pack your bags after breakfast,  say your goodbyes and start your journey back home.
